I
have been teaching children on and off for about 17 years and I find
that kids are the most inspiring students to teach. I think I get far
more out of it then they do. They are teachers and they don't even
have to work at it. I use many resources to get my lesson plans
together. Two of my favorites are sermon4kids.com and
ministry-to-children.com/lessons/, but the best is always the bible
and the Holy Spirit. I try to use videos and the internet as much as
possible to keep my students engaged more fully. My teacher team also
uses whatever technology they have at their disposal. Christians
movies are a big winner and the kids love to have a special movie
night with the works, popcorn, candy, and refreshments. I have been
very blessed in the last 5 years to have a licensed art teacher on my
staff, but years prior to her, art was a difficult challenge. First
off supplies cost money and donations were slim. So I would just do
coloring pages which I find easy online and a scripture memory card
using regular index cards.
Memory
is key in children' teaching. They need repetition to really get it
in there minds. So I like to stick with a theme for 30 days and teach
around that theme. Buy the end I pull off the walls all art and
bulletins on that subject and start off new. The kids take home their
work. If we had children visit and leave behind their work I put it
in a file to use as an example for future projects. If I know that
the kids may never come back because they live far and are visiting
family I let them take it home with them.
Sunday
school is the place where kids apart from parents can learn about God
at their own level. It is a place where an anointed teacher can pray
for them regularly and cover them in the blood and presence of Jesus.
It is where they can fellowship with other christian kids and grow up
with other believers like themselves. It is the beginning of the
future of the church. I have seen kids and youth I have taught grow
up and become amazing people. I have seen kids grow up and get
married to other students of mine and I was not surprised at all at
the match God had made.
It
is an Honor and a privilege to teach Sunday school and the rewards
keep coming. I have been in this ministry both blessed with much and
in need . I have learned to be content in all circumstances and trust
in the Lord that his grace is sufficient for me. It is the children
themselves that are the most important. He who saves souls is wise.
What better sowing field to work in then the Sunday School ministry.
While they are children they are the most influential of mind. If
you think you could be called to do this ministry or are just
starting out I want to pray this prayer for you.
Dear
Father in Heaven,
I
want to lift up to you all children ministers who are in the ministry
and those to come. Give them confidence in you and a passion to do
the work. Show them their gifts that they can use to achieve their
God given goals. Do not let them grow weary in doing good and send
them an anointed team to work with so they can carry the load
together. I pray most of all that you bring in the children to the
classroom so you can mold them into your the image of God. Without
the children we have no ministry. The rest will come In Jesus name
Amen! By The head of Education Minister Virginia Toussaint
