Harvest Time

Even though Christmas is my favorite Holiday my favorite season is fall. I love all the colors. From fall fashion to decor to even the spiritual significance that Harvest brings to the season, I get consumed with it all. I view it as a joyful time full of abundance and blessings. One of my favorite things to display during this time is a cornucopia because it represents blessings. Now I don't want people to get confused with Halloween's decorating and Harvest decorating they really are two different things with totally different ideas. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halloween

Although we celebrate Thanksgiving on the fourth Thursday of Nov. The Harvest is actually a season and is from The end of Sep. to the end of Nov. . It is full of an attitude of gratitude towards God for  our many blessings. There is a spirit in the air of fullness that it can lead many people to want to bless the less fortunate simply out of gratitude for being blessed. I know their are some out there who believe that blessing the less fortunate should always be on our minds and it should, but this season seems to bring it out in folks more then others. It also tends to carry over into the Christmas season and begin to slow in mid January. I love helping people find ways they can serve others during this time and I pray it is something they add permanently to their life. I suggests the usual like volunteering at a soup kitchen or food pantry, but I love finding new ways to use ones talents to serve others. Like offering your services as a handyman to help fix things like a malfunctioning toilet or sink to a single mom or to the elderly. Another favorite of mine is to knit baby blankets for newborns. Or knitting hats and scarfs for the homeless. I live in Puerto Rico so there would be no need for scarves and hats but we have 2 raining seasons here when it rains hard and often so a rain coat or umbrella donation might be the better way to go. But here are some You may have never thought of. Drop in on an elderly neighbor with a bag of groceries or a cooked meal. take a child of a single parent you know out to the movies with your family because it maybe something a single parent never gets to do. bringing coloring books to a children's hospital is a great idea. If you have the time and read well out loud, you could read to the children at the hospital too. All of these things will make your Harvest seasons much more full of blessings then you imagined. The memories you create will live on for years to come. The impact you"ll have on others will be wonderful and God will be pleased. So a midst all the pretty decor and seasonal scents add to the nostalgia the spirit of giving. Amen!
