Lent is a time for reflection and self renewal. If there is anyone who does not understand this season on the Christian calendar here is a link that explains it all.http://projectbritain.com/lent.html

I love this tine of year because it is a time of new beginnings all around us. It is the end of winter and the beginning of spring. This is the time of year when many gardeners start to brake up the ground and prepare the soil for a new garden. It is when we begin to see new buds on the trees, and as Christians it is a time of reflection, repentance, and renewal. Many Christians under go self sacrifice at this time of year in the form of a fast or giving up something that may be bad for them.  Christians have given up anything from eating meat during this season to giving up red meat permanently. I know Christians that have given up To much television, video games, internet, to all kinds of unhealthy habits. This is all good but I think it misses the point of why Jesus sacrificed his life in such a painful way. He sacrificed so you wouldn't have to. He paid the price we never could. He did it to draw you closer to God. So you could have a relationship with him. the bible says he desires obedience more then sacrifice. He rather you not give something up ,as much as he would have you add something on. Add going to church in your schedule, add praying everyday , add bible study time. Vow to make God a part of your life regularly. Then the holy spirit will help you to give up those things that may be unhealthy for you for good, and you won't have to do it alone in your own strength. I believe that this is the most important part of Lent, a re-connection  with God. I think this scripture says it best

Matthew 6:33

New King James Version (NKJV)
33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

What should you be seeking? A relationship with him.
Lord we desire to have a better stronger relationship with you. Please give us your Holy Spirit to lead us each day to spend time in your presence. Forgive us for our sins past and present. Cleanse us and make us whole again. Remove from our lives anything that may be unhealthy and a hindrance to our growth. Because apart from you we can do nothing. We are weak frail human beings with carnal desires but you are strong in our weakness and we trust in you with all our hearts. Thank you for your sacrifice that we could have never paid ourselves. we love you Lord, In Jesus Name Amen!
